Macrame

A few photos of random macrame projects. As far as knotting goes, macrame is pretty basic and only really consists of two knots – the square knot and half hitch. There are other knots used in macrame, like the cow hitch (referred to as a lark’s head in macrame terminology), a Josephine knot (carrack bend) and a barrel knot. But, for the most part, it’s just the square knot and half hitch or some variations or combinations of both knots.

Even though only a few, simple knots are used, they can be combined in an endless variety of combinations to form complex patterns. One thing that is rather enjoyable about macrame is that it can be employed two dimensionally, like wall hangings, but macrame can also be employed three-dimensionally to make anything from clothing to plant hangers to table runners and mats.
