Scrapyard

In a nutshell, Scrapyard is a “tabletop skirmish game played with robots you make from junk.”

The origin of the game dates back several, several years when I had the idea to make a tabletop version of Warzone 2100 and combine it with elements from Ring of Red. I never put a lot of energy into developing the game or even giving it a name. But I did revisit the idea many times over the years and made a lot of notes and fleshed out the basic rules.

All of these ideas floated around somewhere in my Google cloud until I pulled them out while plotting out the battle scene in the third installment of Daze of Thunder, which is titled Junk Pile. Since the scrapyard battle in Junk Pile is the biggest combat sequence in Daze of Thunder, I wanted it to be as realistic as possible for the readers.

To help with creating a realistic scene for the readers, I made some tokens and a cardboard mock-up of the battlespace in the story. I fell back on the basic rules for this unnamed game to help me plot out movement for all of the actors in the scene.

From that process, a basic rulebook developed organically because I had to organize the rules into something I could reference. By the time I finished plotting out what I consider a realistic scene, I had completed a pretty basic rulebook and decided to finally name the game: Scrapyard.
