A great casting with a touch of fantasy
I’ve managed to find about four or five of the Volkswagen Käfer Racers from the Hot Wheels 2022 Mainline Series. This is one of the coolest castings in the 2022 line. The casting was designed by Mark Jones and was originally released in the 2017 Speed Graphics Series.
While the Käfer isn’t a real car, it’s based on the Curtom Beetle body with a little speculation from Jones based on real cars in the Fun Cup.
The casting was included in the 2022 HW Contoured Series and is car No. 142/250. The Käfer has a carmine paint job with a white line and checkered tampo. The tampo also includes the number 44 on the rear quarter panels and the Hot Wheels logo and Jones Racing Design in the on the rear spoiler. The wheels are Gold Retro Slot Wheels (RSW), which I think, look really nice with the carmine paintjob.
The Käfer is also a Super Treasure Hunt Car with carmine Spectraflame paint and Classic 4-Spoke Real Rider (C4SPRR) wheels. I’d really love to have one of the STH on this particular car.
Since I’ve been able to pick up several of these, I’m planning to do a custom paint job and swap out the RSW with some Real Riders. I’m going to have to put some thought into this custom because I really love this casting.
