Halo Mega Construx Spartans

I repainted a couple of Halo Mega Construx Spartans that came in a box of action figures I got at a yard sale. I’m thinking about doing four more to resemble the Silver Team from Paramount’s Halo television series.

The UNSC comes to Boondock Bight

A few months ago I came across a boxful of action figures at a yard sale. The box had about eight or 10 Halo Mega Construx Spartans along with some UNSC Marines and a few Covenant Brutes. There were also several single “surprise” packs that had never been opened. The box had a plastic zipper bag full of weapons, armor, heads, and other accessories.

I decided to see if I could give a couple of Spartans a new paint job. Overall, I thought it turned out pretty well. There’s a lot of room for improving on it, but I came up with a lot better of an overall idea of how to approach repainting the figures.

From left, John-117, Kai-125, Vannak-134 and Riz-028 from the Halo Silver Timeline.

Since Halo premiered on Paramount on March 24, I’ve been thinking about doing a few mods on some of the Mega Construx and do a small diorama with the Silver Timeline Master Chief and Silver Team. I’ll most likely do something with the initial appearance of Silver Team at the rebel camp on Madrigal in Episode 1: Contact.

In the Silver Timeline John-117 and Riz-028 both appear to be wearing standard MJOLNIR Mark IV armor. Vannak-134’s armor looks heavily modified with much larger shoulder pauldrons. Kai-125’s armor is similar to John and Riz, but the shoulder harness is much slimmer.

All four Spartans were different helmets and each has a color specific scheme on their armor. John wears olive drab armor with a gold facemask. I’m not sure of the armor color for Vannak, Riz and Kai. In scenes on Madrigal, the armor appears to be a field drab, but in some of the promotional posters, the armor appears to be a dark, bluish gray. I’m going to have to rewatch the episodes and look at some other photos to make a determination on the armor color. Vannak’s armor has gold visor and trim, Riz has a red visor and trim and Kai has a blue visor and trim. The color variation is most likely to make it easier for viewers to identify the Spartans while they are wearing helmets.

As far as the show goes, I like it. I don’t mind so much that John-117 shows his face in the first episode. Then again, I’m not really a hardcore Halo fanatic. I enjoyed the games, but I never really got into the franchise past the games. To me, the show strikes a good balance of staying true to the spirit and lore of the game while expanding the Halo universe in a different direction.
